Repairing Hearts on Valentine’s Day

On February 10th, 12 Ethiopians flew to Cochin, SW India, for cardiac care at AIMS Amrita Hospital, organized by JDC‐Ethiopia. Each time we organize a heart group, we find some patients have recently died. This time, we lost a 12 year old boy and a 26 year old woman before departure.

Some patients will have complicated surgery; others ‐ balloon procedures. We have many more patients – in 2012, we got 138 new heart patients, a 31% increase over the previous year. Lack of funding is the key factor limiting our ability to help.

Procedures cost up to $3,500, surgeries up to $8,000 (including airfare). With Valentines Day on our minds, this is a great opportunity to give healthy hearts to people without any other chance.
